Areas containing hazardous material identified in report
Work starts today (13 April) on areas of the derelict former Castletown Golf Links Hotel that need asbestos removed.
The site was sold by Danara to Langness Golf Club Limited just over a year ago, with plans to develop a five star hotel.
A report by Manx Professional Services has identified areas where materials containing asbestos are present.
After checks, two of them, the former golf club bar and the foyer, are considered safe for access to remove the material.
However, one area, the kitchen ancillary, will need propping for safety before the work can go ahead.
MPS says only limited areas of the flat roofs and floors could be inspected and the concerns about their structural integrity means any work would have been be done carefully.
The size of the planned new hotel is still being decided.
