More flooding likely

Motorists are being warned of the likelihood of further flooding around the Island's roads later today (Sat)

Last night numerous roads on the Island were affected by the heavy rainfall and had to be closed or were described as impassable due to flooding and landslide issues.

Department of Infrastructure workers were out through the night to clear affected areas so that all roads could be opened again this morning.

Police say there are still areas with standing water on them and the forecast of further heavy rain this afternoon and overnight means further flooding of the Islands roads is likely and will make driving conditions more hazardous.

Motorists are asked to take additional care and to drive to the road conditions whilst being mindful that they may well encounter areas of flooding on their journey.

Meanwhile several high routes, including the Mountain Road, remain closed all weekend due to snow and ice.

The Benn-i-pott Road between Barregarrow and the junction at Brandywell on the Mountain Road, the Injebreck / West Baldwin Road, Tholt-y-will Road, Druidale Road and Mountain Road between Lheaney Road, Ramsey and the Creg-ny-baa all remain closed until midday on Monday when the situation will be reviewed.
