Activities which pose a risk to safety to be monitored
Health and social care businesses on the Isle of Man will be inspected and regulated to ensure the public are receiving ‘compassionate, safe, effective and quality care’.
The Department of Health and Social Care is introducing a new Regulation of Health and Social Care Bill this year.
The Registration and Inspection Team is already responsible for registering, inspecting and monitoring social care and non-NHS health care service providers.
This includes nurseries, childminders, adult care homes and domiciliary care.
In the new bill the DHSC has updated this to include other providers which have either not been regulated or who have previously been inspected by off-Island external regulators.
It means the R&I team will be responsible for regulating all health and social care activities which carry a risk to people’s safety.
Two information sessions will be held this month to inform people of the incoming changes:
- 14 January - Ballakermeen High School - 5.30pm to 6.30pm
- 21 January – Ramsey Grammar School – 5.30pm to 6.30pm
You can find more information HERE.
The Regulation of Health and Social Care Bill will be introduced to Tynwald this year – upon receiving Royal Assent the DHSC will implement the act with a phased approach.
There will be no immediate changes to how any services providers are regulated.
