DoI to consult on graduated driver licensing over the summer
A consultation will take place this summer on plans to introduce a graduated driver licensing scheme on the Isle of Man.
The frameworks, already used in a number of countries, are designed to provide new drivers with experience over time in a bid to reduce the risk of serious injury or death.
The Department of Infrastructure says it's working to develop and implement such a scheme on the Island, and will be seeking the views of the public and industry stakeholders in the coming months.
Some countries prevent newly qualified drivers from carrying passengers, while others operate curfews or restrictions on the type of roads new drivers can use.
Drivers who pass their test on the Isle of Man currently have to display R plates for 12 months and are restricted to 50mph.
