Fresh snow hampers efforts to clear higher routes
The Mountain Road is to stay closed until midnight tomorrow night (10 January) as snow and ice continues to affect the route.
The Department of Infrastructure says fresh snow overnight has, once again, hampered efforts to reopen the Mountain, Beinn y Phott and Tholt Y Will roads.
Areas previously cleared and salted have, over the past 24 hours, since iced over and are now also covered in fresh snow.
DOI gritters and snow ploughs have been redeployed back onto the higher routes now that the situation on lower roads has improved.
The department says it will issue another update later today detailing plans for salting the rest of the road network overnight tonight.
