Managers at Noble's Hospital have been forced to make changes in their bed allocation, to safeguard facilities for emergencies.
In what is termed an 'unprecedented decision', beds on ward four, a gynaecological ward, are being used for acute medical cases.
It means some non-urgent, planned admissions for surgery at Noble's have had to be postponed.
The hospital says planned cancer surgery will not be affected and patients are being kept informed.
It's unclear how long the bed crisis will continue.
