'Shannon class' ship for western crew
It has been announced that Peel Lifeboat Station is to receive a new, state of the art lifeboat in 2019.
The 'Shannon class' vessel is propelled by waterjets instead of traditional propellers, increasing its manoeuvrability - at 25 knots, its top speed far outdoes those of its predecessors.
The craft will replace Ruby Clery, the boat currently used by the station which celebrated its 25th birthday this year.
It is hoped that the crew will now be able to carry out rescue missions in little over half the time it currently takes them.
