No release date for report into sinking of Manx registered freighter

Follows incident in German Bight in October 2023

The report into a collision between two ships in the German Bight in October 2023, which resulted in the sinking of an Isle of Man registered vessel remains under investigation by the UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

The Manx registered 'Verity' sank after coming into contact with the Bahamas registered bulk carrier Polesie.

A crew member aboard Verity died and four others are missing presumed dead. The Polesie was able to reach port under her own steam.

Manx Radio understands a draft report prepared by the MAIB has been sent to the interested parties for comment, and a final report will be published once the process is complete.

A specific release date hasn't been announced.

The incident occurred in the German Bight traffic separation scheme, close to the Heligoland Islands. Two crew members from the Verity were rescued from the water.

The Verity was carrying steel from the northern German port of Bremen  to Immingham in Lincolnshire. Polesie, had departed from Hamburg  for La Coruña in northwestern Spain.

Verity was built in The Netherlands in 2001 and operated since 2008 by the Anglo-Dutch shipping company Faversham Ships,^[2] based at Cowes, Isle of Wight.
