Half-a-dozen found as bird flu cases rise
A number of dead birds have washed up on Fenella Beach in Peel this morning.
Around half-a-dozen have been found.
It comes as cases of bird flu are on the up on the Island - a number of dead seabirds found earlier this month tested positive for the same strain of Avian Influenza which caused a recent outbreak in Scotland.
On Monday, six birds were found dead on Ballaugh Beach and tested for the virus.
Government says the risk to the general public is low, but people are being asked to not touch, and keep dogs away from, sick or dead birds.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has been approached, to ask whether the birds in Peel will also be tested.
Measures were introduced on the Calf of Man yesterday to prevent the spread of avian flu reaching the gull colonies there.
