Advice to public
The Office of Fair Trading has been made aware of fraudsters phoning Island residents, claiming to be from Barclaycard.
They say that you are due a Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) refund, then try to obtain your credit card details.
The OFT says the callers are very convincing and will use various scare tactics to get your attention; claiming the refund has to be done there and then, for example.
Barclaycard has issued information and advice via its website, https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/customer/protecting-you-from-fraud.
The OFT has also been made aware of callers claiming to be from Manx Telecom.
They say your account has been hacked, and offer £99 in compensation, then try to get you to give them your financial details.
The advice is to put the phone down, and not to engage in conversation.
