A public meeting last night was told researchers estimated older people made a net contribution to the Island’s economy of more than £40 million a year.
The figure included income tax paid to the government, money carers save the NHS and cash saved in childcare costs as well as spending on goods and services.
The data, shown by representatives from the University of the Third Age to the Positive Action Group in Douglas last night, contradicts claims the ageing population is a burden on society.
