Ramsey students hope their actions will help the Island's Biosphere status
Students from Ramsey Grammar school say their anti-plastic petition is 'just the beginning of the journey' if the Island is to make a difference.
On Friday, pupils met with the chief minister after their petition received 450 signatures.
It called on government to ban the sale of plastic bottles in the school and help it make up the £20,000 in lost revenue.
Although Howard Quayle said this wouldn't be possible, he encouraged the students to find other products that didn't come with a plastic footprint to be made available in their canteen.
According to figures from the department of education, the Island's secondary schools use over 8000 drinks bottles a week.
Year eight student Daniel Comley and Amy Ratcliffe from year 11, were among those meeting the chief minister.
