The Isle of Man government says it will continue to monitor proposals for the introduction of identity cards in the United Kingdom.
According to the Chief Secretary's office, there are no plans to introduce identity cards here at present.
Yesterday, the UK Home Secretary Jacqui Smith revealed most people won't have to carry one - and biometric passports will be used instead. However, airport workers and people in security sensitive jobs will need an ID card from next year, and non-EU migrants applying to enter or remain in the UK will need a card from November.
Tristram Llewellyn-Jones from the Positive Action Group on the Island says the group has been watching the situation for over a year and have serious concerns.
