Steam Packet flagship had to return to Douglas shortly after departure this morning
The Steam Packet Company has confirmed Manxman had to return to Douglas this morning due to a medical emergency on board.
The vessel left the port shortly before 8am, but turned back shortly after when the incident occurred.
The operator says its crew coordinated with the emergency services to ensure an ambulance and paramedics were in attendance when the vessel was alongside.
The patient was treated on board before being transferred to the ambulance and taken to hospital.
Manxman resumed her crossing just before 8.45am and is expected into Heysham at 12.05pm.
