Fire service warns warmer weather increases risk of fires
Today (25 June) could mark the hottest June day on record for the Isle of Man.
Temperatures are expected to reach 28 degrees Celsius.
The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service and the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture are asking people to help protect the countryside during this hot spell.
Fire Prevention Officer Mark Connor, and Uplands Ranger Anna Clarke-Smith, say it’s about being responsible:
If you spot a wildfire:
• Move to a safe location away from the fire
• Call 999 immediately — don’t assume someone else has reported it
• Use the Ordnance Survey app or what3words to give an accurate location
• Wait at a safe, agreed point if asked, and provide further details to emergency crews
• Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself
• Do not travel to the area of a wildfire — this can hinder emergency response
Always follow instructions from emergency services and local authorities, including any evacuation or stay‑indoors advice
