Castletown police are investigating an incident in which a man was allegedly assaulted in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It happened in the area of the lane that runs between the top of Westhill Avenue and Maynrys, at around 2am.
A 28-year-old man from Castletown says he was attacked by an unknown assailant.
Officers say he wasn't injured and didn't require hospital treatment but they would like to hear from anyone who heard a disturbance in the area at the time.
Police Sergeant Phil Drowley told Manx Radio: "We did have a part of the lane taped off while we examined the area where it is alleged the assault took place and this has led to quite a few rumours about what we were dealing with.
"I would like to reassure the public that it was just a routine procedure and there is no need for alarm.
"Some house to house enquiries are being conducted in the area as part of our investigation."
Anybody with information which might help the investigation is asked to call Castletown Police Station on 822222, or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
