History-making woman remembered
The Island's police force has paid tribute to its first female officer who passed away earlier this month.
Margaret Corkill finished her training in 1968 and served mainly as a uniformed officer spending several years in the Ports Unit.
She spent her last four years working in CID records before retiring in 1988.
Mrs Corkill started work as a civilian clerical officer at Ramsey police station, before being selected into the constabulary in September 1967.
However, she had to wait until the regulations were changed to set out pay and conditions for female officers before starting her training.
She met her husband Sergeant Archie Corkill in the police force, though he retired some time before her.
Chief Constable Gary Roberts says Mrs Corkill was a kind and compassionate woman who exemplified everything good about the Constabulary.
Mrs Corkill's funeral takes place next Friday, September 25.
