Police say graffiti on walls around the Isle of Man is unpleasant and unwanted, whatever the motivation behind it might be.
At the weekend, a number of dates and place names, relating to countries and the years they achieved independence from Britain, were daubed on walls.
It's being seen as a call for Manx independence, in the wake of nationalist graffiti which has appeared elsewhere on the Island recently.
But crime prevention officer PC Mike Radcliffe says, whatever the thinking behind it, it's still being treated as criminal damage:
