The portrait of a significant 19th century MHK is now on display in the Tynwald buildings, after it was donated by his great great grandson.
William Farrant was born in 1790 and became an MHK at the age of 35.
As there are no records of debates or voting proceedings from that time, it is difficult to get an idea of his political style.
But he did play an important role in a law suit against the then Bishop of Sodor and Man over an unwelcome potato and grain crop tithe.
Peter Farrant has given the picture from his own collection and says he is enjoying learning more about his ancestry.
