Every man, woman and child in the Island could be vaccinated against pandemic flu, before the virus strikes.
The new strategy is under serious consideration by the DHSS, and negotiations are continuing with drug manufactures over the possibility of securing sufficient supplies.
The World Health Organisations says a pandemic is most likely in the next two to three years, and efforts are continuing to minimise the impact.
The Island's Acting Director of Public Health, Dr Parameshwaran Kishore, says a pre-pandemic vaccine would have to be based on the, as yet, unknown virus.
