The minister for education and children says he would never allow a road to be built through QEII High School's playing fields.
Eddie Teare has clarified the position after concerns from local residents and students that Heritage Homes was planning to construct a bypass between the Poortown Road and Douglas Road.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne has also said he would not support a road which destroyed the playing fields, posting his comments on a Facebook protest page which has been set up.
Mr Teare says the land is simply not for sale:
