Local authority confirms it will shut on 23 March for 'necessary preparations'

Ramsey Commissioners says the Northern Civic Amenity Site will be temporarily closed to allow a new contractor to take over.

The local authority confirmed on social media that it will shut from Monday 23 March to allow the outgoing committee time to make 'necessary preparations'.

It adds the new contractor will 'hopefully' assume responsibility for the site on 1 April, after 'essential work' has been carried out.

It comes after two years of uncertainty about whether the site would remain open and whether it would still be operated by the local authority.

In April 2024 Bride Commissioners decided to pull out of the NCAS joint committee and with it, its share of the funding because the commissioners believed it was paying too much in contributions.

This led to the committee sending a notice to the Department of Infrastructure stating its plan to stop operating the site the following April.

It claimed it had enough in its reserves to remain open for one year.

As part of this, the committee reduced the opening hours of the site and closed the re-use shed to make room for white electrical gods.

The DOI came to an agreement with the joint committee and they covered the £67,000 gap left by Bride before announcing it was going to go to a tender process to find a new operator for the site.

Ramsey Commissioners has been contacted for comment.
