Department of Infrastructure to go back to the drawing board following 'serious concerns'
The Department of Infrastructure is to withdraw its planning application for new flood defences and highway improvements along West Quay in Ramsey.
The decision follows serious concerns raised locally about the scale and impact of the design.
The Department says it will now start consulting again to find a solution.
Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall says he's listened to the concerns of the community and it's clear the current design, whilst offering flood protection to the town, is not the right solution for West Quay.
The minister says serious concern had been expressed over the height of the proposed harbour wall and the loss of car parking spaces on the quay.
Mr Crookall says the department will now work with key stakeholders, including Ramsey Town Commissioners, to assess options that balance effective flood mitigation with the need and character of the area.
