Anybody considering handing over a gift to a member of Tynwald will be pleased to learn they will soon be able to give a little bit extra before the MHK or MLC has to declare it.
From next Tuesday, the first day of the May sitting, members won’t have to declare individual gifts worth less than £55. The current figure is £50.
The lower limit for gifts or benefits in kind is also being raised to £1,115 from its current figure of £1,000.
Any gifts above those values have to be reported to the register of members’ interests.
