A woman who made false statements to obtain well over £5,000 in social security benefits has been ordered to carry out 240 hours of community service by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.
Twenty-three year-old Shelley Ann Noon from Castletown appeared for sentence after admitting two offences, with others being taken into consideration.
The defendant was paid benefits on the basis she was single, and working and living on her own in Castletown.
In fact she was married, living with her husband in Douglas and working.
As a result Noon was overpaid £5,864.
Her advocate said the defendant was very upset at her actions and had repaid £4,000 of the money.
However, the prosecutor said he was only aware of £350 being paid back.
Mr Moyle further adjourned the matter so a final total could be agreed.
