The Island’s most dangerous road will be up for some much-needed improvements at this week’s Tynwald sitting.
The Department of Transport is to ask the court for permission to go ahead with a £3 million revamp of Richmond Hill.
Minister David Andrson says a one-kilometre stretch of road will have work carried out on it, should Tynwald vote the scheme through.
And he says workmen would be on-site for about nine months, with work starting almost immediately.
The plan would be to begin in February and have everything completed by November, with crews improving both road and pedestrian safety between the Middle River bridge at the bottom of the hill and Rosehill Cottage at the top.
More than 6,700 vehicles use that stretch of road every day according to DoT data – and despite the 50mph speed limit, it has the worst accident record of any road on the Isle of Man.
Mr Anderson says the road surface, lighting, pavements, drains and overtaking lane all urgently need work.
And he adds the scheme, if approved, would make the main road south from Douglas a much safer place to drive and walk.
