Rolling Stone Sir Mick Jagger is calling for marijuana to be legalised, and believes the Isle of Man should be the test bed.
The singer insists youngsters will always experiment with substances, despite the risk of negative side effects.
And he's urging the Island to legalise cannabis for a limited time, to see if it prevents drug-related violence.
In an interview with United States talk show host Larry King, Sir Mick said that while the whole question of legalising drugs was fraught, such things were usually tried out in very small places.
He claimed new mobile phones were often tested out on the Island and, as there was a 'captive society', the same approach could be applied to drugs, to 'see what happened'.
He acknowledged drugs affected many people's lives and hoped some sort of legalisation would help reduce violence from both ends of the supply line.
Sir Mick performed on the Isle of Man with the Rolling Stones during the 1960s.
He was convicted of possessing narcotics during the same decade.
