Severe gales forecast
This evening's Ben-my-Chree sailing from Douglas to Heysham - and its overnight return - have been cancelled.
They are the first in a series of scheduled sailings between now and the early hours of Wednesday morning which are subject to disruption or cancellation.
A decision on tomorrow morning's sailing is due by 7am.
Winds reaching severe gale-force nine are expected this evening and tomorrow.
The weather is expected to cause problems on land as well.
Relaying a message from the Met Office on social media, the police say there is a risk of some disruption and minor damage in places, localised flooding and standing water on the roads.
There's also the possibility of some overtopping around high tide at 2am tomorrow.
