
Dive fisheries are being explored by the the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture as way of continuing sustainable fishing.
Minister Phil Gawne says the department has been approached by divers who want to take up the method and he would be open to the idea, if it helped protect scallop stocks.
The news came in response to a Channel 4 documentary, Hugh's Fish Fight, which visited the Island as part of an international campaign to promote sustainable fishing.
Mr Gawne says whilst the possibility of diving for scallops sounds beneficial, there needs to be talks with the conventional fishermen first:
