Charge will rise next April
The Chairman of Manx Utilities says he sees next week's sewerage rate hike as a 'sustainable way forward'.
Dr Alex Allinson was speaking after Tynwald approved the rate of 98 pence in the pound from 1 April 2017 - a 6.5% increase.
He called it an inflationary rise, which will allow Manx Utilities to invest £28 million in sewage treatment plants to improve drinking water quality and the environment.
And he believed the debt of over £500 million currently facing the MUA - inherited after the authorities were combined two years ago - can be paid off over the next two decades.
