Chief Minister plans to plant 85,000 trees - one for each resident
The chief minister has given details of a new wood to be planted consisting of 85,000 trees - one for each Island resident.
The pledge for 'The People's Wood' came as part of government's recognition of the climate change emergency.
After an inspection by Howard Quayle last week, Meary Veg was chosen as the preferred site for the project.
The tree planting is expected to be completed by 2021, with a forest manager being appointed next year, who will be in post for three years.
