EU gives formal notice to UK regarding practices on Island
The Chief Minister made a statement in the House of Keys this morning (Tues 13th) regarding VAT treatment of Manx registered aircraft.
It was in response to a question of urgent public importance tabled by South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft, who wanted to know what the Island's response was to a press release suggesting the EU Commission was following up on illegal tax breaks for yachts and aircraft.
Earlier this week the EU Commission issued infraction proceedings against the UK Government in relation to the VAT treatment of aircraft in the Isle of Man.
Mr Quayle told the House that the Island was considered part of the UK for VAT purposes and a letter of formal notice had been sent to the UK regarding VAT practices on the Island with regard to the supply and leasing of aircraft.
