Steam Packet achieves 98% sailing reliability in 2024

Figures were revealed in the House of Keys

Steam Packet sailings achieved 97.73 percent reliability, and 91.2 percent punctuality, over the past 12 months to November, according to the treasury minister.

Reliability figures include weather-related cancellations and punctuality reflects the percentage of sailings departing as scheduled.

Alex Allinson attributed improvements to a live-aboard model introduced after trade unions agreed to changes in workers’ terms and conditions.

This allowed ships to layover in Heysham to avoid adverse weather and therefore reducing cancellations.

The changes also enabled the Ben-my-Chree to be chartered generating revenue while serving as a backup vessel.

It's currently being used by Stena Line.

The update comes approximately a year after industrial action by Steam Packet workers over the terms caused significant disruption to services.
