MLC wants to make improvements
New Legislative Council member Jane Poole-Wilson says she'll help make improvements before her role ends in February next year.
In yesterday's (Thurs) election Mrs Poole-Wilson, who had been nominated by Garff MHK Daphne Caine and seconded by Middle member Bill Shimmins, won a straightforward majority,
Contender Paul Beckett received five votes for and 19 against, and Alan Wright, six for and 18 against.
Conducted under a reformed voting regime to replace Tony Wild - the publicly available vote replaces a secret ballot for the first time in LegCo history.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle also voted for Mrs Poole-Wilson along with Dr Alex Allinson, David Ashford, Tim Baker, Clare Bettison, Rob Callister, Alf Cannan, Bill Malarkey, Ralph Peake, Martyn Perkins, Bill Shimmins, Laurence Skelly, and Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson.
Those against were Kate Beecroft, Geoffrey Boot, Graham Cregeen, Julie Edge, Ray Harmer, Lawrie Hooper, Jason Moorhouse, Chris Robertshaw, and Chris Thomas.
Mrs Poole-Wilson explains why the job is a good fit for her:
