A Laxey man took his own life after years of depression, an inquest has heard.
The body of Kenneth Merryweather was washed up on Perwick Beach, south of Port St Mary, in March.
A post mortem examination showed the 61-year-old, of Old Laxey Hill, had drowned.
Coroner of inquests John Needham heard Mr Merryweather bought a house in the Isle of Man three years ago, but split his time between the Island and Austria, where he owned another property.
He was originally from Nottinghamshire, but spent much of his adult life in Austria, where he married.
Evidence showed Mr Merryweather became depressed following his wife's death in 2002.
A dog walker found his body on the beach and his Land Rover was later discovered in the Sound car park, along with a suicide note.
Mr Needham said Mr Merryweather went into the sea at the Sound with the intention of taking his own life, and recorded a suicide verdict.
