Suspect will be on Crimewatch

The case of a man who is wanted by the Isle of Man Constabulary will feature on the BBC Crimewatch programme this evening.

Michael Derek Sansbury (pictured), formerly of Douglas, was charged in November 2005 in the Isle of Man with serious sexual offences against a child and was released on bail to appear in court in the town in February 2006. He failed to appear and hasn’t been seen since.

When last seen he was wearing his hair long and tied back in a pony tail. He also had a beard and a moustache, but it's possible they may have been removed to change his appearance.

He is around five foot, nine tall and of average build, with a tattoo of the word 'Mick' in a scroll on his right forearm, about 4 inches below the elbow.

Mr Sansbury speaks fluent German and Spanish and it's thought he may now have a slight American accent. He may also have used the aliases Derek Bain, Derek Blen and Michael Edges.

He is known to have a keen interest in motorcycles and may be working as a heavy goods driver.

Detective inspector Phil Shimmin of the Isle of Man Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit hopes the Crimewatch programme may finally lead to him being located.

He says Mr Sansbury has not been convicted of any offence but is asking him to get in touch so he can return to the Isle of Man to have his case heard.
