Calls for Island to be more 'ambitious' as locals mark global march
Time is running out and the Isle of Man needs to be more ambitious in tackling climate change.
That’s the message from protestors who joined a global march this weekend to demand action.
Local residents turned out in force on the streets of Douglas on Saturday (6 November) as part of a global day of action.
Manx Radio’s Lewis Foster joined them:
The event was organised on Island by the Climate Change Coalition and Friends of the Earth Isle of Man.
Peter Christian helped coordinate it – he says there is three big areas of concern including the amount of new build properties which aren’t using renewable energy:
Someone else calling for changes within construction policy is the leader of the Isle of Man Green Party Andrew Langan-Newton:
The UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties – or COP26 – has entered its second week in Glasgow.
And the Isle of Man is being represented there by a small government delegation.
This weekend the Island showcased its nature based solutions for healthy oceans and Garff MHK Daphne Caine – chair of the climate change transformation board – joined a panel on agriculture, forestry and land.
Andrew Jessopp is a member of the Green Party and the chair of Zero Waste Mann – he says it’s important the Island is not isolated from global issues as everyone has their part to play:
