Douglas town hall may soon become the venue for local residents to register births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships.
The council has been asked by government if it will take over responsibility for civil registration as part of a plan to slim down the General Registry on Prospect Hill.
Authorities in Ramsey and Castletown have already opened local registration offices and Douglas says if terms can be agreed, it will follow suit.
Council leader David Christian says the town hall is a logical place to locate the important service.
