Last year saw a lower amount written off but a similar number of cases
Treasury has written off more than £340,000 in overpayments to recipients of benefits in the last three years.
In the 2023-24 financial year, £139,006.13 was written off, with a similar amount (£138,511.56) the following year.
In the last financial year, the figure dropped to £63,287.23.
Treasury says that while the amount written off was significantly lower, the number of cases was only slightly reduced, with average value of each write-off being considerably smaller than in previous years.
