Liverpool site lodgings will cease to be run by NHS
The construction of the new £335 million Royal Liverpool Hospital could lead to accommodation problems for Island patients and their families.
In Tynwald today, Health Minister Kate Beecroft confirmed the lodgings used by many Island families, who have loved ones staying at the current hospital, will no longer be run by the NHS once the new hospital is open.
That means rooms at the site will not be solely kept for use by patients and families, and will need to be booked directly through a new operator.
However, health chiefs have vowed to keep locals informed of future options.
Mrs Beecroft said once the hospital gives up its lease on the 'highly valued' Hillsborough Suite, alternative accommodation will also be available at the Broadgreen site, although she acknowledged that was less convenient.
