Supermarket giant's flagship store to welcome public from Wednesday
The new Tesco store in Douglas is set to open at 8am on Wednesday (27 March).
Replacing Shoprite on Victoria Road, it'll be the new flagship store on the Island for the supermarket giant.
It'll be the only one here to sell Tesco's clothing brand, and will also have a café and a designated Changing Places toilet enabling those with additional needs to be changed by their carers.
To mark its opening, Tesco is donating £1,000 to the Wish Upon a Dream charity, which grants wishes for sick and terminally ill children living on the Isle of Man.
Store Director Andy Sanderson says: “Opening our first superstore on the island for 25 years is really exciting. We’re really looking forward to serving the local community and we hope facilities such as The Coffee Shop and the Changing Places toilet will be well received locally.
“When we were looking for a charity to support to mark the opening it was an easy decision to go with Wish Upon a Dream who make a massive differences to the lives of terminally ill children by making their wishes come true.”
The UK retail giant has vowed to convert the nine former Shoprite stores into five Superstores and four Express stores throughout 2024.
Last month, the Castletown shop was the first to be officially opened.
The next store to be converted to Tesco will be the St Paul's branch in Ramsey, which is hoped to be ready in the next couple of weeks.
