MLC says reason for war memorials must not be forgotten
The outgoing chairman of the war memorials preservation committee says the body should have funds to help it in its work, even if it means appealing to the public.
David Cretney MLC was responding to criticism from 100-year-old war veteran Hector Duff that the Island's memorials weren't always given appropriate care.
Mr Duff called for war memorials to receive more attention after being named an OBE in the New Year Honours.
Mr Cretney says with no funds, his committee must use persuasion where work is needed:
