'The Force' was with Douglas Borough Council in Ridgeway Street last night, when the town's Christmas lights were turned on.
A large crowd, including many children, saw the Star Wars character Darth Vader use his special powers to bring the decorations to life, and mark the start of the festive season.
The Town Band played carols before the cast from the Christmas pantomime Dick Whittington put on a 15 minute preview, on a specially erected stage outside the Town Hall.
The promised 'snow' also appeared, just as Darth Vader, accompanied by the storm troopers, performed the most important duty of the night.
