The Leader of Douglas Town Council is welcoming the government's decision to hold a National Service of Remembrance on the 50th anniversary of the Winter Hill air disaster, later this month.
Thirty-five people lost their lives when their plane crashed in to the mist shrouded hill, on the final approach to Manchester Airport.
Most of the victims were representatives of the motor trade, and Council Leader David Christian says the involvement of councillors is fitting, given that a number of those who died were from the Douglas area (audio file attached):
The National Service will be held at St John's on Wednesday, February 27.
