Technology brings 'new dimension' to footpaths
A brand new way to enjoy the Island's scenic footpaths has been officially launched. (1 October).
Isle of Man Walks is a mobile app that uses 'cutting edge' technology to display audio, images and information to amblers as they reach physical electronic waypoints - or 'i-Beacons'.
It's been developed by Rushen Heritage Trust in conjunction with local tech firm Fuzzilogic - and the app is free on Android and Apple smartphones.
The walks featured are in Port St Mary, Port Erin and The Sound, but RHT hopes to expand the technology across the south of the Island if this scheme is successful.
Over 100 braved the rain to attend a launch event on Saturday at 11am, where the app was showcased by Parish Walk legend Robbie Callister.
That took place at the Bradda Glen Café.
Professor Hugh Davidson explained what users will be able to discover en route.
