Baked treats discovered under hotel floorboards
Manx National Heritage says its latest exhibit demonstrates the human side of war.
A box of mince pies dating from the Second World War has recently been rediscovered in storage at the Manx Museum, having been put there 20 years ago.
That's when they were found under some floorboards at the Loch Hotel in Douglas, while the property was being converted into flats.
The mince pies had been baked for an Able Seaman Phil Davis from Birmingham, whose mother sent them to him whilst he was on the Island to attend a naval radar training school.
MNH's curator of social history, Matthew Richardson, says a note was found along with the box of treats:
