2009 Milan San Remo winner Mark Cavendish is set to miss the event for the first time in a decade.
After taking an extended break from cycling last year due to a fitness battle with Epstein Barr Virus, the 33-year-old had been easing back into the sport.
Cav finished the Vuelta a San Juan and the UAE Tour, but suffered a setback at Paris-Nice when he retired on stage 2 of the race last week.
And his return has been hampered once more as he's been left out of Team Dimension Data's seven-man team for the Milan-San Remo.
