Manx rider facing indefinite spell out to recover
Manx elite cyclist Lizzie Holden has revealed she's been diagnosed with an Epstein-Barr infection.
The 26-year-old announced the update on social media saying as a result she is 'currently on a less fun/forced off season' at this time.
Facing an unknown amount of time in the sidelines, Holden adds she's 'trying to stay positive and trying to take each day as it comes' and that she is surrounded by 'wonderful people and a wonderful medical team' to help her return to full fitness.
Since her announcement, Holden has received messages of support including from fellow Manx world tour competitor Becky Storrie, other tour riders such as Alice Towers and Silvia Persico as well as the UCI Women's WorldTour organisation.
This week, Holden was crowned 2023 Isle of Man Sportswoman of the Year as well as being inducted into the Isle of Man Sport Hall of Fame.
