Late goal sees Manx side defeated in closely fought contest

The Isle of Man women's football team has suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley women during a friendly in Lancashire this afternoon (10 May).

In a close-fought contest, the Manx side created a number of opportunities throughout at the Wham Stadium including a long-range Becky Corkish effort which sailed just wide on 40 minutes.

At the other end, Accrington Stanley threatened on numerous occasions forcing a number of good saves from Isle of Man stopper Kayleigh Greggor.

The first and only goal of the contest then came with nine minutes to play as Accrington Stanley debutant Darcie Dixon fired home on 81 minutes to hand the home side victory.

The fixture formed part of the Isle of Man's preparations for the 2025 Island Games due to take place in Orkney from 12-18 July - the squad for which was announced last month.
