Football: St John's United win gripping Junior Cup final

Westerners win in extra-time during seven-goal epic

St John's United have won this year's Ascot Hotel Junior Cup after a thrilling 4-3 extra-time victory over Rushen United at The Bowl last night (10 May).

In a nip-and-tuck contest in Douglas, both sides grabbed three goals apiece in normal time to see the contest level at 3-3 after 90 minutes.

Into extra time and St John's United found a decisive fourth to secure the silverware for the western side with Cian Brock scooping the Player of the Match accolade.

On their way to success, St John's netted seven goals in their first two outings in the competition - first against Douglas High School Old Boys and then again against Douglas Royal.

In the quarter-finals they then overcame defending Junior Cup champions Ramsey via penalties before a convincing 5-1 victory over Ayre United in the last-four phase.

Elsewhere yesterday, Peel were presented with the Canada Life Men's Premier League trophy at Douglas Road as they drew 2-2 against Foxdale in their final league contest of the 2024/25 campaign.
